Foresight Welcomes Emergent Waste Solutions and Reforus to the BC Venture Acceleration Program

October 2013, Vancouver, B.C:

Emergent Waste Solutions: Converts waste into useful products using an advanced pyrolysis process. Our society is facing a sustainability challenge and there is an acute need for a radically new solution to waste management. Rather than hiding, burning, or recycling, EWS converts waste into useful products that reduce the need for fossil fuels and generate real profits. EWS provides an answer to the global challenge of waste disposal by no longer looking at waste as something to get rid of, but as a valuable natural resource €“ a true paradigm shift.  The Company works on the basis of selling Joint Ventures, rather than selling plants. Investors purchase a 50% share of a separate legal entity, which then owns the plant. In this way EWS ensures consistency of operation and by-product quality.  Revenue sharing from JV€™s is expected to form the bulk of EWS profits by end of fiscal 2015.

Reforus: Is a value added wood products company that has developed a third generation building technology. Reforus takes marginal stock and waste stream timber sources and makes high performance building panels. The company has developed the BuildPanel housing system that will address the affordable housing shortage facing countries all over the world.

In 2006 the devastation caused by the Mountain Pine Beetle, and the impending fibre shortage facing BC, spurred research into upgrading the marginal stock trees for conventional building construction.  The economics of utilizing a degraded fibre resource has mandated the development of technologies substantially different than what has been typically used to produce conventional building materials. During 2008-2009, the North American construction markets went into shock from the financial crisis and it was realized that new offshore markets would be needed to supplement decreasing local markets.
