Foresight and the UBC Okanagan (UBCO) School of Engineering are inviting First Nations, innovators, industry, regulators, utilities, local governments, and sector experts to an upcoming workshop assessing the opportunity to develop an Interior BC Hydrogen Hub.

A key challenge facing hydrogen development in BC is matching supply and demand. Regional hydrogen hubs, as outlined in the BC Hydrogen Strategy, can overcome this challenge by co-locating hydrogen production and end-use applications while accelerating the growth of the local economy. 

The Lower Mainland, Northeast BC, Interior BC (Kootenays and Okanagan) and Vancouver Island were identified by the B.C. Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions as key economic regions where hydrogen projects are developing. This workshop is the fourth in a series across the province that will support the completion of opportunity assessments for regional hydrogen hubs. 

The workshop will feature an educational Hydrogen 101 component and presentations from UBCO on its past, present, and future hydrogen research activities. Afternoon break-out sessions will explore the challenges and opportunities for hydrogen in the Kootenays and Okanagan, including potential feedstocks, infrastructure, transportation needs, end-uses, and a call to action to establish a competitive regional hub. 

This event is by invitation only. Food and beverages will be provided to all attendees. With the financial support of the B.C. Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions, we are also pleased to offer travel reimbursements to municipal and Indigenous leaders who attend the workshop. This will include the cost of a hotel and round-trip flight for those attending from outside of Kelowna.
