Seizing the Bioeconomy Opportunity

Canada has a unique opportunity to elevate competitive advantages in the forestry, pulp and paper, and agriculture sectors, and to use the existing innovation ecosystem to create a thriving market for bioproducts. The circular bioeconomy is projected to be a $7.7 trillion opportunity by 2030 with $240 billion in Canada alone.

As an emerging innovation space, there is an urgent need to engage companies and investors operating in these sectors, bringing together a highly focused innovation cluster. Through a market-driven approach to current research and technology innovation efforts, we can help to speed up technology commercialization and deployment.

Bioeconomy Report

Foresight recently led a four-month pan-Canadian project focused on accelerating circular bioeconomy innovation. Supported by Natural Resources Canada’s Canadian Forest Service (NRCan-CFS), the project connected actors in the emerging bioeconomy ecosystem to gain insights and identify market opportunities.

This new report outlines the initiatives we undertook and what we learned about this exciting opportunity to accelerate growth of the green economy. We share recommendations, including how to address the need for market connections for Canadian bioeconomy innovators and companies seeking solutions.
