Seizing the Carbontech Challenge

There is an urgent demand for clean technology solutions as heavy industry sets its sights on the bold goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. Despite growing consensus of their importance in decarbonization, deployment of CCUS technologies has been too slow. The primary reasons: policy uncertainty and most CCUS technologies are not ready for broad deployment at industrial scale.

As policy signals align and investors mobilize, this country’s first generation of CCUS startups are gaining traction. The next generation of Canadian CCUS innovators needs a different kind of support to more rapidly identify markets, derisk technologies, enable pilots, capital, and scale. Their partners in Canadian heavy industry need support to engage in the innovation ecosystem, to efficiently source and validate solutions, and to ensure “fit” in real operating environments.
