GGI is developing the next generation of our stackable batteries and we are hiring a full-time Embedded
Systems Engineer with experience in low-level software or firmware development to support the
development of the next generation of our battery management system (BMS). The Embedded Systems
Engineer will provide board programming, testing, validation data logging, troubleshooting, and data
analysis support. They will also monitor and provide technical reports, diagrams, and specifications
related to the assigned tasks.
Note that this position may be partially funded through the Industrial Research Assistance Program
(IRAP) Youth Employment Program, which requires candidates to be under the age of 30 years old.

Typical Duties
● Design and development of hardware and software using embedded microcontrollers (e.g. EPS32,
MSP430, Arduino)
● Experience with the embedded microprocessor tool
● Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts
● Program and debug to device level: I2C, SPI, CAN bus, RS485, RS232, Ethernet (TCP/IP networking, SSH)
● Preparation of flowcharts and block diagrams for software design review
● Preparation of schedules for project planning and management
● Coordination of activities with peers
● Preparation of prototypes and associated debugging
● Preparation and documentation of design verification test results (DVT)

● Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or other related engineering discipline
● Minimum two years of experience in embedded software development
● Knowledge of C and C++
● Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
● Demonstrated ability to lead and influence without direct authority
● Demonstrated technical and non-technical communication skills, as well as organizational skills
● Demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve quality and timely deliverables
● Registered professional engineer with APEGA or eligible to do so

The following are not required, but are considered an asset:
● Background in Power Electronics and/or Power Systems
● Experience scripting in Python, SQL, MATLAB
● Test-driven development and familiarity with developer-driven automated testing
● Experience with optimization (i.e. Linear programming), machine learning, data mining, or artificial
● Experience with automatic transfer switches or high voltage/industrial grid connection
● Experience with Agile software development and processes
● Some experience with Git or other version control systems

Work Location
This position is located in Edmonton, Alberta. We are hiring immediately, and applicants must be eligible to work in Canada.
