Climate Connections:
Built Edition
- Date: May 3, 2023
- Time: 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
- Cost: Free
- Venue: Zoom
- Organizer: Foresight
The climate imperative presents enormous challenges for industries that must now align their strategy and operations with the goal of a low-carbon economy. As industry steps up to meet these pressing new climate challenges, there are exciting new opportunities for the translation of research into impact.
Enter Climate Connections, our problem-driven event series that connects solution-seekers from industry with researchers and innovators from academia, and fosters cross-sector connections to address the climate challenge.
On May 3, we’re focused on the built environment, bringing together industry experts who will present short “reverse pitches” on the challenges they see – from data-driven design for deep retrofits to the implementation of heat pumps.
Through structured conversations with academic researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs, we’ll unpack and explore their challenges.
You should attend if you are:
- Academic Researchers
- Innovators
- Entrepreneurs
Speakers
Brad White, President, SES Consulting Inc. will be speaking on the challenges –
Challenge 1: Heat pumps aren’t as hot as conventional boilers and it’s difficult to heat buildings in colder weather. Beyond replacing zone units, which is very expensive, is there a way to change the zones to accommodate the heat pumps’ lower temperatures in colder weather?
Challenge 2: Most commercial buildings have computerized control systems that collect data and that we use for design purposes, but this is currently done manually. Innovation in building optimization is big, but it’s mostly geared towards operations and not for designers. So how might we enable more data driven design using real-world performance data from buildings?
