January Alumni Recap | Foresight Alumni Secure $433M+ in Awards and Funding 

It’s a new year, and our alumni companies have a whole new set of amazing accomplishments we’re excited to share with you. 

This month our network of alumni companies have raised more than $433 million in funding, have received local, national, and international recognition for their contributions in the fight against climate change, and have entered into new and exciting partnerships.

Here are a few of the highlights:

Funding

• Minesense raised $42 million to deliver data solutions to improve ore grade management, operational efficiency, and reduced carbon intensity across the mining industry.
• Summit Nanotech secured more than $67 million in funding to scale its novel lithium extraction process. 
• Foresight 50 honouree Svante has raised $318 million in its Series E round to help create a commercial-scale manufacturing facility in Vancouver. 
• Terramera raised $6 million to support the launch of and CEO hire for enrichAg, Terramera’s majority-owned subsidiary to commercialize soil analysis.
• Carbon Lock Tech won a $450,000 prize in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Food Waste Reduction Challenge.
• SDTC announced $2.5 million in seed funding for 25 sustainable Canadian companies including Foresight alumni:

Awards and Recognition

• MarineLabs and Audette have both taken home Victoria Tech Community Awards in the Growth Company of the Year category and the Startup of the Year category respectively.  
• Moment Energy and Pani have been recognized in the Cleantech Group’s Global Cleantech 100. 
• Open Ocean Robotics was selected to showcase how their technology is being used to revive oceans at Greentown Labs in Boston for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
• Terramera and CEO Karn Manhas were recently featured in Forbes, discussing why farmers and ranchers need a seat at the advisory table as we enter a technological revolution in agriculture. 
• Solarstream was recently recognized as one of Canada’s most investable cleantech companies.
• Verdi was named the 2022 Pitch Competition winner at the 2022 Irrigation Show and Education Week in Las Vegas. 
• Innovate BC has announced the awardees of it’s BC Fast program, that includes Foresight Alumni:

New Partnerships 

• Portable Electric recently partnered with streaming giant Netflix to provide them with electric generators to power their sets during production.
• HTEC announced it has entered into an agreement with ERCO Worldwide (“ERCO”) to purchase its industrial land in North Vancouver, BC, where it will construct a 15-tonne per day clean hydrogen plant.
• Clean02 entered into a partnership with SaskEnergy and the Regina International Airport to install its carbinX capture device to help the airport reduce its carbon emissions.
• ShareWares partnered with the food delivery service Skip the Dishes to provide reusable packaging options for Vancouver residents. 
• Foresight Canada is excited to welcome our Winter 2023 Earth Tech and Launch cohorts.

Recap

To date, our network of 890+ Foresight-supported ventures have raised $1.3+ billion in capital, generated $390+ million in revenue, and created 7,150+ high-paying jobs. In total, the economic impact of our alumni companies is more than $2 billion. 

We are inspired by the contributions our alumni companies are making to Canada’s transition to a net zero economy, and we are so excited to see what comes next for these innovators.
