Smart Forest Solutions Challenge Webinar
- Date: November 26, 2024
- Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
- Cost: Free
- Venue: Zoom
- Organizer: Foresight
CMPC, one of the biggest worldwide pulp and paper companies with 54 industrial plants and a global presence across 12 countries, is seeking innovative solutions to quickly determine the amount of water that forest species consume from the seedling stage to the age at which the trees are harvested in the new Smart Forest Solutions Challenge in partnership with Foresight Canada.
Understanding trees' water consumption allows pulp and paper manufacturers like CMPC to develop hydrological zonings for planting forest species, ensuring an adequate water supply. This optimizes water availability as a function of water consumption for each species and locations, which is key to a more efficient and sustainable pulp and paper manufacturing process.
Successful solutions should:
- Accurately track water consumption of different tree species across varying areas and weather conditions.
- Recommend irrigation when precipitation is insufficient, taking local meteorological data into account.
- Utilize agile and remote technologies like sensors, drones, and satellite data to monitor and manage water use effectively.
- Be cost-competitive and scalable across CMPC productions.
- Capable of data connectivity through cloud-based systems
