Accelerating Change in BC's Transportation Sector
Transportation is critical in British Columbia's economy, society, and environment, but it’s also the province's largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. The BC Net Zero Innovation Network (BCNZIN) Transportation Cluster is committed to advancing sustainable solutions across land, sea, and air, driving the transition to a cleaner, more efficient future.
Get InvolvedSubscribe to the BCNZIN NewsletterBritish Columbia is transitioning to low-carbon transportation solutions, with electric vehicles (EVs) rapidly gaining traction, public transit systems being electrified, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies emerging for heavy-duty transport. Yet, there is still much work to be done.
How We’re Decarbonizing BC’s Transportation Sector:
- Advancing low-carbon and zero emission vehicle technologies
- Expanding charging and fuelling infrastructure
- Collaborating with Indigenous Peoples to create inclusive opportunities
- Enhancing telematics, data, smart mobility, and intelligent transportation systems
Why It Matters
Transportation accounts for 38% of British Columbia’s total greenhouse gas emissions, a result of the province’s unique geography, resource-based industries, and reliance on trade. Accelerating electrification, clean energy alternatives, and sustainable innovations in transportation is key to reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality, and advancing BC’s path to net zero.
The BCNZIN collaborates with industry leaders across the public and private sectors, alongside innovators, academia, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities, to achieve a 50% reduction in transportation-related emissions by 2030.
Implanting new technology is often risky and challenging. The vehicle-to-grid (V2G) workshop that Foresight organized during the Globe Conference was an ideal opportunity to learn about the challenges and opportunities associated with V2G.
