By 2050, BC aims to be a leader in the clean hydrogen economy.

The 2021 BC Hydrogen Strategy highlighted a regional hub model as a solution to challenges in meeting demand and supply by co-locating hydrogen production and end-use applications. As part of the implementation of the BC Hydrogen Strategy, the BC Clean Energy and Major Projects Office (CEMPO) has been working with Foresight to examine the potential for the development of hydrogen hubs in key economic regions where potential sources of demand exist or hydrogen projects are underway.

Opportunities Assessment

Our assessments are focused on the Lower Mainland, Northeast BC, Interior BC (Kootenays and Okanagan), and Vancouver Island to catalyze:

Development

Analyzing the regional potential to develop low-carbon hydrogen supply and demand ‘hubs’ including identifying supply and demand side opportunities and challenges.

Competitiveness

Identifying and discussing competitive strengths, opportunities, and barriers associated with hydrogen hub development in each region.

Collaboration

Identifying opportunities for collaboration within the region, and with neighbouring regions, other proposed hubs, and associated industries.

Engagement

Supporting community engagement in each region and raising awareness of the appropriate opportunities associated with hydrogen development in BC.
