Manitoba: Net Zero by 2050
Manitoba has set an ambitious and critical goal: achieve net zero by 2050 through its Path to Net Zero strategy. Through the Manitoba Net Zero Innovation Network (MNZIN), Foresight Canada is supporting the Manitoba Government in achieving this strategy.
This program brings together the right people, funds the right projects, and ensures industry participation to deliver economic growth and emissions reduction—quickly.
An Innovation Network Model that Delivers
This three-year program focuses on three high-impact clusters aligned with Manitoba's economy—agriculture, transportation, and the built environment—where the biggest long-term carbon cuts and job opportunities exist. Cutting across all clusters, the network will launch a specialized workforce development stream to train local talent for Manitoba’s net-zero workforce needs.
MNZIN uses a proven model from the successful British Columbia Net Zero Innovation Network (BCNZIN). By exceeding its job creation target by nearly 50% and leveraging private sector investment 278% over its goal, BCNZIN demonstrated the ability to generate high-quality jobs and attract massive private capital, proving that public investment in clean technologies is not an expense but catalytic capital.
Ensuring a Just & Fair Net-Zero Transition
MNZIN prioritizes connections with relevant Indigenous organizations, rights holders, and community partners across the selected cluster areas to ensure meaningful participation and leadership of Indigenous communities.

Four synergistic pillars drive program impact:
Adopting Innovative Technology
Strategically apply provincial seed funding to initial, small-scale validation projects, creating successfully de-risked projects that build industry confidence and lead to greater industry participation and subsequent private investment.
Building Innovation Economies
Leverage sector experts to conduct ecosystem mapping, establishing activity baselines, and maintaining the administrative capacity to support continuous innovation programming.
Strengthening Networks
Ensuring all projects are industry-led, problem-driven, economically and environmentally impactful by convening industry leaders, innovators, government, and Indigenous rights holders to identify and solve real-world problems.
Inclusivity and Reconciliation
Ensuring a just and fair net-zero transition through inclusive partnerships with the Ininew, Anishinaabe, Anishininew, Dakota, Dene, Inuit, and Red River Métis that inform the design, delivery, and implementation of policies and programs.
