Gurminder Minhas is a business and technical development specialist with three decades of experience in the biofuels, biochemicals, chemical recycling, and pulp and paper industries. He is well-versed in new technology development across the chemical sciences space, specializing in scaling technologies from the lab to pilot scale and on toward commercialization.
In 2014, Gurminder co-founded Performance BioFilaments and served as its Managing Director until January 2026, leading the development of commercial opportunities for fibrillated cellulose products in composite and chemical applications. During his tenure, he grew the company from the concept stage to full-scale production and commercial sales, which included laying the groundwork for the investment and construction of a cellulose filament plant.
Gurminder is now the Founder and Principal of Navachar Renewables, an advisory practice he originally established in 2012 and reactivated in February 2026 to help cleantech companies develop and commercialize new technologies. He is also the former Director of Technology Deployment at Lignol Innovations—a Canadian company commercializing a proprietary biomass-to-fuels-and-chemicals technology—and currently serves on the board of Bioindustrial Innovation Canada / Sustainable Chemistry Alliance. Gurminder holds a BSc in Chemistry from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and an MBA from Simon Fraser University.
