Opportunity Analysis
From Potential to Prioritized Action
Opportunity analysis is a critical tool for scouting and validating high-potential projects in emerging markets.
Think of it as a form of market research and a necessary step before a feasibility study. It helps you understand which path to investigate further, while building a clear view of your potential market share.
Why choose opportunity analysis?
The primary goal of Foresight’s Opportunity Analysis studies is to give our clients an early competitive advantage in complex, multi-partner projects by providing foundational knowledge to assess and prioritize critical project elements. This is especially beneficial for industry and governments investing in dynamic fields like cleantech.
Our Opportunity Analyses help clients:
Pinpoint and prioritize investment
Provides the strategic clarity needed to allocate limited capital and resources.
- Identify white space: Helps identify opportunities in specific geographic regions or technological verticals that are underserved and ready for investment.
- Filter noise: Enables you to evaluate multiple potential projects and prioritize only those with the strongest commercial promise, saving time and money.
Secure project alignment
Identify and convene key partners, customers, and funders critical to large clean-economy projects.
- Validate anchor demand: Identify and validate anchor customers or use cases that are essential for making a project bankable.
- Confirm regional opportunities: Align supply (production facilities) with demand (target market end users) and necessary infrastructure, ensuring the ecosystem is viable within the broader competitive landscape.
- Create a roadmap: Provides a step-by-step blueprint detailing necessary regulatory changes, infrastructure upgrades, and the key partners to engage to accelerate the project toward long term success.
Case Study: BC Regional Hydrogen Hubs Opportunity Analyses
In partnership with the BC Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions’ Clean Energy and Major Projects Office, Foresight completed a series of detailed Opportunity Assessments for developing low-carbon hydrogen supply and demand hubs across four BC regions (Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Southern Interior, and Northeast BC). The market analysis mapped regional supply against high-impact demand, and outlined regulatory and infrastructure gaps that must be addressed to advance the ecosystem.
The market assessment provided validated information on:
- Potential sources of hydrogen supply in the region, including feedstocks, production methods and locations, and transportation and storage.
- Potential sources of hydrogen demand within the region, cost trends, and forecasts for market trends and demand growth.
- Regional competitive landscape strengths (e.g., port infrastructure in the Lower Mainland, natural gas as a feedstock for the Northeast) and opportunities for collaboration with neighbouring jurisdictions.
The reports act as a foundation, providing key insights to hub partners to advance regional hydrogen hubs within the next decade, secure project financing, attract additional partners, and overcome critical barriers.
