Building Alberta’s Cleantech Ecosystem

In 2021, the Alberta Clean Technology Industry Alliance (ACTia) joined forces with Foresight Canada to do more for Alberta Cleantech. Foresight is continuing ACTia’s mission to position Alberta as a global leader in cleantech, by providing a leading voice; fostering local and global connections between technology developers, entrepreneurs, investors and customers; and is accelerating industry development.

Foresight has supported the growth of more than 150 Alberta-based cleantech ventures through our Acceleration programs. Our range of programs - from startup to C-suite development - offer training, expert coaching, and connections to help innovators build thriving businesses.

Several Alberta companies have been named to the Foresight 50, recognizing the country’s most investable cleantech ventures. The province’s innovators have also been featured in Foresight’s Demo Day showcases, sector-specific events, and investor matchmaking programs.

Nisha Sridhar

MARKETING AND EVENTS MANAGER

Nisha is a communication and marketing professional with experience in graphic design and event coordination. She has several years of experience in working for non-profits and helping them expand their capacity for impact.

She is also passionate about improving the lives of others through design and is constantly looking to learn new things every day.

Nisha currently serves on the Board of Directors of Rutland Park Community Association to support community initiatives in local projects to enhance community connections, social inclusion and well-being of the neighbourhoods. She has a master’s degree in Communications from the University of Louisville, KY, USA and several courses in marketing, events and UX design from Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary.

David Yiptong

REGIONAL DIRECTOR, ALBERTA

Technology development, commercialization and community engagement have been at the heart of David’s recent work. He has worked with hundreds of technology startups and entrepreneurs, helping them build their businesses and connecting them with resources and supports in the community. Their successes are what drives David’s passion for the sector in Calgary and Alberta.

David brings a wide range of experience having worked in startups, large corporations, and not-for-profits, in industries ranging from manufacturing, energy, and telecommunications. He continues to volunteer to coach students and entrepreneurs through various programs in Calgary.

Briare Ferguson

Digital Marketing Manager

Briare is a charismatic, strategic-thinking marketing and communications professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for building meaningful relationships. Briare’s has a nonprofit background working in various different industry sectors but most recently, helping tech startups grow and scale their dreams into a reality. Briare is passionate about digital marketing as well as community and ecosystem building.

Lesley MacKinnon

Director, Investor & Indigenous Relations

Lesley is an impact strategist focused on system transformation with over a decade of innovation-oriented experience in the charitable and social impact space. Her career portfolio includes leadership roles, high net worth philanthropy, ecosystem mapping and engagement, and designing partnership-based initiatives.

In her role as Director, Investor & Indigenous Relations at Foresight, Lesley provides an organizational perspective to the strategic initiatives, partnerships, and emerging opportunities that position the organization for continued growth.

Lesley currently serves on the Board of Directors of Volunteer Alberta as Board sponsor for revenue diversification. She holds a BA (Honours) in Global Politics and Women’s and Gender Studies and an MA in Political Economy, both from Carleton University.

Jason Switzer

Director, carbonNEXT

Its Executive Director since 2016, Jason Switzer led the Alberta Clean Technology Industry Alliance to join with Foresight in Spring 2021.  With a new focus on unlocking Capital for Canadian cleantech ventures, Jason brings 20 years of experience in developing industrial and natural climate solutions, partnerships and policy with organizations including the Pembina Institute, Cenovus Energy, Shell, and IISD.  A cofounder of the Canada Clean Technology Alliance and of Biological Carbon Canada, Jason is vice chair of the SIF-backed Clean Resources Innovation Network, Alberta Ecotrust’s Low Carbon Innovation Fund Advisory Committee, and sits on the CSA Committee on Transition and Sustainable Finance.  Jason holds master’s degrees in engineering and public policy from MIT, and co-hosts Canada’s leading energy and environment podcast, Pipelines and Turbines.

As Director, Jason is as employee of Carbon Management Canada on our joint carbonNEXT initiative.

Amanda Lo

Program Manager - Prairies

Amanda is a driven individual with experience in operations and project management. Through her time with Foresight, she has developed meaningful relationships within the cleantech ecosystem. Amanda is dedicated towards making Canada a global leader in cleantech.
Amanda graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics, providing a strong technical understanding of, and appreciation for, the cleantech companies she supports. In early 2020, she was selected to participate in the 2020 Leading Change Forum in Vancouver – a program for young professionals with the common vision to achieve a more sustainable future
