Mike Brooks is an experienced executive and adviser focused on driving growth in B2B software/Saas startups and scaleups. He brings a unique perspective given the breadth of his experience building, leading & coaching a wide variety of teams - Executive/Leadership Teams, Product/R&D, Marketing, Sales, Client Services, Partnering/Alliances plus extensive experience doing corporate M&A and working closely with Boards. He has a strong track record in working collaboratively to troubleshoot operational issues and create strategic clarity.
For the last 2 years, Mike has been supporting, advising and investing in startups while working with startup incubators and activators including Foresight Canada; entrepreneurship@UBC, Spring Activator and FinTech Cadence. Prior to that, he was COO for FINCAD, a financial analytics software company developing trading & risk solutions for institutional investors. At FINCAD, he led the Product and R&D, Marketing, Sales, Client Services, and IT operations teams and led the company’s executive team and strategic planning processes. We successfully launched and grew a new business line to $5M ARR; opened new international offices and scaled the business to approx $20M in revenues and 125 employees.
Mike started his career in technology at Crystal Decisions which grew into one of the leading companies in the data analytics software market before being acquired by Business Objects. Mike grew through a series of progressively senior sales and business development roles eventually building and leading teams in product management and alliances/partnerships. After the acquisition by Business Objects, he became VP of Corporate Development where he led deal negotiations and execution on acquisitions valued at over $100 Million.
Mike has an MBA from the UBC Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia and a Mechanical Engineering degree from Queen’s University. Before his career in technology, he was an energy management consulting engineer and still has a passion for reducing energy use and waste.
