Executive in Residence
I have a passion for sustainable energy, leadership and unlocking operational potential; and have demonstrated my multifaceted abilities across the energy value chain, from strategy to development and operations.
Currently, I am accountable for the availability and reliability of Suncor Energy’s thirteen midstream liquid fuels storage, processing and logistics facilities – totaling over 22,000 assets and a combined capital and operational budget of $80M annually – across Canada as manager, maintenance and reliability. Prior to this, I held roles of increasing responsibility over fifteen years at Suncor, including operations manager at MacKay River - the first commercial steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project in Canada. As part of the latter role, I led the operational pilot of the Enhanced Solvent Extraction Incorporating Electromagnetic Heating (ESEIEH) technology at MacKay River. ESEIEH, funded by Suncor and partners including Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), has the potential to reduce the emissions associated with the SAGD process by up to 80%.
Outside of my work with Suncor, I am passionate about enabling the global energy transition across a broad spectrum. In the area of thought leadership, I provide techno-economic insights focused on the development of executable strategies for the energy transition and decarbonization of heavy industry, with four papers published by the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES), an affiliate of the University of Oxford. On the venture front, I founded Clean Efficiency, a sustainable energy advisory group in 2017. Through Clean Efficiency, I co-founded Electrify Capital which invests in and mentors sustainable energy start-ups in sub-Saharan Africa; and Energy Savers Nigeria, which coordinates energy conservation education and advocacy efforts in rural and peri-urban communities in Nigeria.
I have a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA specializing in energy management and strategy from the Vienna University of Economics and Business in Vienna, Austria. In my spare time, I am an avid traveler with a deep interest in geopolitics, history and culinary adventures.
