It’s beginning to feel a lot like spring, and our network of more than 900 ventures continue to grow their teams, attract funding, and receive awards and recognition for their contributions to the fight against climate change.
Here are a few of the highlights:
Funding
On the heels of the announcement of a $318M funding round in December, Foresight 50 honoree Svante has announced that it is expanding its executive team, including a new COO.
Carbon Upcycling Technologies and Circular Rubber Technologies received $4.4M and $3.2M respectively from Emissions Reductions Alberta.
Hydra Energy was one of 18 companies selected to receive funding from the Alberta Hydrogen Centre of Excellence. Hydra received a $550,450 investment.
Three Alberta-based cleantech ventures all received funding from Sustainable Development Technology Canada:
- Future Fields received $5M
- Synergraze received $1.3M
- ZS2 Technologies received $2.6M
Future Fields closed a USD $11.2M funding round that will enable it to turn fruit flies into bioreactors, accelerating the biomanufacturing process in medical R&D, pharmaceuticals, and cultivated meat.
Awards & Recognition
Build Smartr Robotics and NanoTerraTech were selected in the Angels for Climate Solutions’ top ten list.
OptiSeis has won the HETI Energy Venture Pitch Competition at CERAWeek 2023.
VoltSafe Inc. has been selected as a finalist for EPiC 2023, qualifying VoltSafe for up to a USD $5M investment.
Reusables.com and Farment have been named to the Vancouver Economic Commission’s Top Five Climate Tech Startups to Watch in 2023 list.
FREDSense announced a technological breakthrough with its field-ready water testing kits, shortening the time it takes to detect PFAS chemicals from the traditional 4-8 weeks in a lab setting, to just a few hours.

To date, our network of 900+ Foresight-supported ventures have raised $1.3+ billion in capital, generated $390+ million in revenue, and created 7,150+ high-paying jobs. In total, the economic impact of our alumni companies is more than $2 billion.
